ARE YOU FEELING DOWN, SAD, OR DEPRESSED?

Raise your hand if…

  1. You found yourself feeling unmotivated, less and less like yourself, feeling increasingly discouraged or hopeless?

  2. Are tired, sad, or tired of feeling sad

  3. Lack motivation and find less enjoyment for things in your life

You are not alone. Feelings of depression can creep in and sneak up on you. Or sometimes they can come crashing in suddenly and leave us feeling like we just need to “try harder”. Many people feel a sense of shame or even embarrassment when they struggle with symptoms of depression. Why does it seem that some people can manage through life without feeling depressed, and others don’t? This can seem unfair and strange. We are here to tell you that depression is real, and even though it can be difficult to manage, it is possible to live life with less depression getting in your way!

HOW DEPRESSION IMPACT US

Depression can zap our energy, leave us feeling often like the “glass is half empty” (or not even caring about the glass to begin with), or avoiding things we care about because we find ourselves actually caring less. Depression can influence how irritated we get, how happy we feel, or even our motivation to accomplish daily tasks and work towards our goals. Or we may stop caring about or having goals entirely.

HOW CAN DEPRESSION THERAPY HELP ME?

Did you know that counseling for depression can help you actually feel better? It may not be a quick fix necessarily, but there are tools and techniques to improve your mood and help you feel better again. Whether it’s helping you adjust your thoughts and learning new thinking patterns, reconnecting with your values and life goals, helping you grow in your own self-awareness and understanding of your emotions, or practicing mindfulness techniques to help you increase your tolerance of uncomfortable emotions and life experiences, we are here to help.

Many of us live life on autopilot, going through the motions of life and doing what we’re “used to”, even with how we manage or respond to the stress in our lives. However, living life this way can lead us to overreact, assume what others are thinking about us, and cast a negative light on how we’re interacting with others, even our loved ones. Many of our autopilot emotional responses come from our past experiences and things we learned along the way, even if some of those things weren’t entirely helpful or true. Oftentimes, we are reacting to something that is connected to a past feeling or past experience, something our mind has held onto.

Our therapy practice in Colorado provides a variety of effective therapy modalities to help you identify this autopilot way of thinking and reacting when it happens and teach you tools to choose how you respond so that you can begin living your life with more emotional freedom. Modalities and evidence-based strategies that our licensed therapists incorporate include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Attachment-Based Therapy

  • Compassion-Focused and Culturally Sensitive

  • Experiential Therapy

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Person-Centered and Relational Therapy

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

  • Strengths-Based

  • Trauma-Focused

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN DEPRESSION THERAPY?

During sessions, we will guide you to learn and incorporate techniques to manage your thoughts, emotions, and impulses differently. We’ll also teach you how to approach these patterns with greater empowerment and support as you learn to be kinder towards yourself. You’ll learn to name your triggers and past experiences that may be connected to and have initiated your depression. You’ll practice real-life strategies and relaxation techniques to help yourself maintain a sense of calmness, even in stressful and difficult circumstances.

Treatment for depression with Rooted Counseling in Colorado can also help you communicate more effectively and clearly with others and with yourself. You can learn to slow down your thinking bit by bit so that you can identify the source of your depressive thoughts, recognize thoughts that aren’t true about you and who you are, and make positive adjustments and changes so that lower self-esteem or depressive thoughts don’t continue to plague you. Many of the things we tell ourselves or believe about ourselves are harmful self-judgements or narratives from our past that we’ve accepted and believed to be true. And they are getting in our way and holding us back. Let’s work together to undo them.

With depression treatment and therapy through Rooted Counseling in Colorado, you’ll also learn ways to incorporate self-care culture into your day-to-day life, in big or small ways or something in between. Choosing which self-care practices you weave into your life and at what pace is something we’ll do together. With help from our trained therapists, these practices can actually change how you respond to the stressors in your life instead of primarily reacting to them in ways that aren’t helpful to you or your values.

BUT WHAT ABOUT…

Two people holding hands walking.

Do I really need counseling for depression? Doesn’t everyone feel down or stressed? I should be able to handle it on my own.

Many of us learn ways to hide or manage our depression in ways that “work” for a time but aren’t actually helpful. Many of us also grew up learning that we “should be able to handle” multiple things on our own. Yet, it can be a sign of strength to reach out for help and support, especially when feeling down, stressed, or depressed is getting in our way. By working with someone who understands and knows evidence-based ways to treat depression, you can feel better. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. We are meant for community and connection, and it’s oftentimes unrealistic to expect that we can handle it all on our own all of the time. We can help you learn new ways to change your relationship with depression so it doesn’t have to cost you so much emotionally. It really does take a village, and that’s okay.

Is it worth the expense? Depression counseling seems too expensive.

Working with a skilled therapist can help you find your way again when you feel stuck or lost. Whether you start depression treatment to explore the source of your depression, learn new strategies to manage your depression symptoms, or gain new tools to implement in your life, learning to live without depression weighing you down is actually possible and can be within your reach. Let’s do this!

I’m too depressed and tired for depression treatment. I don’t have the energy.

We get it. Life is full, and adding “one more thing” may feel like too much right now. Our practice currently provides online services, so that you can meet with your therapist online during your day at a time that’s more convenient and flexible for your schedule. Let us help you and walk with you during this time.
