Rooted Counseling CO About Us

There is hope.  You are not alone.

At Rooted Counseling, we’re here to listen, to be patient, to guide, but, most importantly, to give you the tools you need to weather any of life’s storms.

In a plant, the roots feed and give strength to the stem, leaves, and fruit growing above. If the roots are strong, the plant can handle whatever the universe throws at it.  We want to do the same for you. Together we’ll build root systems that connect you to the things that nourish your soul, and keep you strong no matter the storms life hands you.

rooted: an underlying support; establish deeply and firmly

Lauren Jensen

Hello! I'm Lauren, and I get that personal and mental health struggles are real. Reaching out to talk with a professional takes a great deal of courage and inner strength. My passion is to work and walk with you through whatever is going on in your life to help you rebuild confidence, find hope, and restore a greater connection with who you really are.

I grew up in a divorced family that experienced lots of change. Although joyful, my childhood was at times quite painful. As a young adult, I struggled to be myself and developed many symptoms of anxiety and depression that have since been with me for a long time. I also experienced many layers of grief and loss: loss of a parent, significant relationships, my health, and a child. Throughout these ups and downs, counseling and life mentors helped me to see more of who I really am and restore my self-confidence and hope.

Because of this, I pursued social work, graduating from the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work. I am patient, compassionate, and understanding. I know how hard it can be to work through the challenges in life, especially the unexpected challenges that shake you to your core. Most of all, I believe you have the wisdom within you. My style is to focus on solutions to the problems that you’re facing, help you use your own strengths and resources, and teach relaxation and stress-reducing techniques that you can use in your daily life.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 15 years of experience, some areas I specialize in include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, secondary trauma, integrated healthcare, and family/relationship changes and challenges.

I often hear people talk about bad counseling experiences, or not being able to find the "right" therapist.  I too have had negative counseling experiences that made it difficult for me to want to try again.  However, several years ago I experienced two deaths that turned my world upside-down.  I was broken, worn down, and alone in the depths of my grief; I could barely see through the fog of depression and overwhelming anxiety.  I wondered if life would ever feel bright again.

I was able to find support  with a counselor that was a good fit,  put hard work into it and eventually came out of the darkness. It wasn't easy, and it didn't happen overnight, but my time talking with someone was what helped me heal, grow, and find hope.

Since then I have come to see the power of our life stories. We each have stories - some parts we share, some parts we keep safe to ourselves - but it's in recognizing how the pieces of our lives shape us that we are finally able to create positive change for ourselves. It can be so easy to "let life happen to us" and so hard to recognize our own ability to make change. I want to help you find your inner strength and direction so that you can experience the power of your own life story.

I love working alongside individuals and families to create sustainable, healthy relationships by taking steps toward the life you desire to live.  I hope that through our work together you will feel heard, empowered, and find healing in your life.  I received my M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Regis University (Denver) and am currently fulfilling the requirements to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).  I am also an approved provider of CGC® Pathfinders ,a grief-based curriculum from Judi's House, one of the nation's leaders in grief support.
